While the world keeps rolling on new technologies and including the new power plants keep developing new ways to optimize theirs power generator to be competitive on the current market, not to mention that the new green energies are taking over and are decreasing the cost of power generation at the long run.

We need to optimize our power consumption in order to lower our expenses and protect the planet.

We put together a list of 10 ways to maximize your savings on your Electric Bill

I hope this can help you as much it helps me!

1.- Change Your Lightbulbs

Change it to the new generation led bulbs, they will cost a little more but they will last longer, and depending on how many you can replace, it will impact your monthly bill in a very positive way.

2.- Shop for Discounted Rates

Ask or negotiate for the lowest rate available, express your intentions to change to another power company due to their rates.

But don’t just stay with what you can get with your current power company, shop for better rates with other power companies in your area, they always, have offers with very low rates for new customers, if you find a nice low rate you most probably will be able to cancel the contract and still be saving money at the end of the year.

3.- Relaxing your A/C Thermostats Temperatures

Yes! some people just can’t do this but just 2 degrees of heating and cooling off of your current settings will decrease your electric bills by at least 15%, If you have your cooling settings on 70 degrees just take it up to 72 degrees, if your you have electric heather, you can do the same, if you have it on about 65 degrees then make it 63 degrees or the lowest temperature you can handle.

4.- Use of Fans

If you living in an area where summers are hot, try to rely more on your ceiling or floor fans instead of always use you’re A/C. The use of a ceiling fan can make a room feels 10 degrees cooler and it will use just about 10% of the energy that an A/C does.

5.- Fridge and Freezer Temperatures

Most of the people just go with whatever the fridge comes with, yes, I was one of them!

Adjust the fridge to 37 and the freezer to 2 degrees, this will keep your food well preserved and the fridge and freezer will run smoothly without the waste energy while trying to keep the temperatures as lows as possible.

6.- Ask for a Free Energy Audit to Your Current Energy Company

Not all companies give this service for free, but most of them do. If your electric bill is higher than you think, you can ask for an energy audit where they can help you to identify if one of your appliances is not working properly and also identify other ways to reduce your energy consumption in your home.

7.- Upgrade Your Laundry Room

The use of front-loading washing machine will save you money on your electric bill and in your water bill, they are more power-efficient and needs a lot less water to complete a washer cycle. Also always use cold washing cycles in order to save on water heater energy.

8.- Microwave Oven

Do not unfreeze meat in the microwave oven, always try to remove meat from the fridge an hour before you want to cook it or dip it in hot water.

9.- Air Seals on Windows and Doors

While your room heater or AC is on, look for any air leakage through windows and doors. If there is leakage in the room it will ultimately consume more energy to warm or cool down your room. Most of the newly build houses are required to make a leakage audit to ensure they are energy efficient.

10.- Water Heater Timer

If you have an electric water heater you can save money installing a water heater timer in order to limit the time during the day where your water heater will be working, 1.5 hours a day working should be sufficient to heat your water tank and this tank should keep the temperature for the rest of the day, also check with your power company about a discounted rate available during the night so you can program the water heater to work only during the discounted rate hours.

Hope these 10 ways to maximize your savings on your Electric Bill works also for you.
